Why Agents Fail at Adoption

Enterprise AI agents that are technically excellent frequently fail at adoption for non-technical reasons: employees don't know the agent exists, don't understand what it can help with, don't trust it after an early failure, or have no support path when something goes wrong. Change management addresses these failure modes before they occur.

The Change Management Plan Components

• Communication plan — who tells employees about the agent, through what channels, and with what message? The message should be specific about what the agent does, not generic AI enthusiasm.
• Training and onboarding — how do employees learn to use the agent? A quick-start guide and one or two example interactions are more effective than a comprehensive training program.
• Champion network — identify 3–5 enthusiastic early adopters in each department who can support their colleagues and provide feedback. Champions drive peer adoption more effectively than formal training.
• Support path — when something goes wrong, who does the employee contact? What's the escalation path? Employees who encounter a problem with no support path don't give the agent a second chance.

Measuring Adoption

Define adoption success metrics in the same phase as the deployment plan: target active users by 30/60/90 days, target interaction volume, target user satisfaction score. Review these metrics weekly during the first 90 days and adjust based on what you observe.

Iterating Based on Feedback

Plan for one or two rounds of agent improvement in the 90 days following launch. User feedback will reveal cases the agent handles poorly, questions it can't answer, and features users want. Build the iteration process into the plan — not as a reaction to problems, but as an expected part of the rollout.
