Production Readiness Checklist for Enterprise AI Agents

How to Use This Checklist

Every enterprise AI agent must pass this checklist before production deployment. Work through each section with the agent owner, the platform team, and the governance team. Items marked as blockers must be complete before launch. Items marked as recommended should be completed within 30 days of launch.

Design and Architecture

Agent scope is documented — what it can and cannot do is explicitly defined
Design pattern selection is documented with rationale
All Skills required by the agent are identified and built
Knowledge Bases are complete and reviewed for accuracy
Escalation paths are defined for all failure scenarios

Security and Governance

Security

RBAC is configured — agent has access only to required Skills and connections
Sensitive fields are masked in all Skill responses
Irreversible actions have human approval gates configured
Credentials are stored in Workato connection store — none hardcoded
Data masking is applied to all PII-containing Skill responses
Agent has been tested against prompt injection scenarios

Testing

Testing Coverage

10+ standard (happy path) test scenarios documented and passing
5+ edge case scenarios tested
5+ failure scenarios tested (system unavailability, invalid inputs, permission errors)
3+ out-of-scope scenarios tested — agent correctly declines or escalates
All Skills tested independently before full agent testing
Pilot testing completed with real users and real data

Operations

Operational Readiness

Monitoring dashboard is configured and active
Alerting is configured for error rate, latency, and usage anomalies
Rollback procedure is documented and tested
Agent owner is identified and has accepted responsibility
Support path is defined for users who encounter issues
Audit log retention policy is configured

Adoption

Launch Readiness

Communication plan is ready — launch announcement prepared
User quick-start guide is complete
Champion network is identified and briefed
Adoption success metrics are defined (30/60/90 day targets)
First iteration review is scheduled (30 days post-launch)
